With time, comes change. It’s undeniable. We simply cannot stop the world from coming up with new trends, inventions, technologies, and discoveries. And pubic hair is no different.
In fact, we’ve seen quite the transformation when it comes to the female bush over the past few decades! Let’s take a walk through the years, noting the trends when it comes to the love below, as well as what men have to say about this natural lady garden.
First off, it’s important to note that pubic hair actually serves a purpose. It protects us from bacteria and provides a soft barrier between external stimulus and your skin, causing less friction or skin abrasion. It’s also one of the first signs of puberty, making it quite a note-worthy occurrence for teens everywhere.
Then, just what did lady parts look like way back when? To say that going bare is a relatively new trend is actually a lie, as in 3,000 BC the Ancient Egyptian ladies removed their hair using homemade razors and a process similar to waxing, called “sugaring”. The brave women of Greece however took care of their pubes by plucking each one out individually.
As the 15th and 16th century rolled around, we saw the birth of the merkin – a pubic wig that women would wear to maintain modesty whilst preventing pubic lice. Fast forward to the 1950’s, and we’re looking at ladies enjoying the many benefits of the bikini, which meant showing more skin. This, naturally, lead to them merely tidying up their bikini line to be out in the summer fun, hair-free.
Then, the trend of the full bush hit in the 1960’s and 1970’s due to the sexual revolution and the fact that women wanted to embrace their bodies. But, in the 1980’s, pubic hair was slowly making its way out of popular culture due to shows such as Baywatch (think high-cut bathing suits).
By the 90’s, women were embracing a full wax ‘down there’, while 10-20 years later we saw some creativity rearing its head. Women began shaping and styling their pubic hair and/or using crystals and stones to decorate the area, known as vajazzing!
Today? Well, anything goes really! Women are inclined to going full Brazilian or to wax or shave interesting styles, such as the Landing Strip, but others prefer to let it be au-natural.
Which is why, we asked men what they think about women and their pubic hair styles.
“I prefer less pubic hair but if it’s someone I actually care about, then it’s really not a huge deal to me.” – Nick, 27, USA
“I love a woman who is fully shaved or at least close-shaven. I’m not a fan of sniffing bush when I’m going down on her. #likeitshaven” – Michael, 41, USA
“I was a teen before shaving and waxing became trendy. I was raised on full pubes, and I prefer it that way. The prepubescent look never appealed to me. Ultimately, however she likes to dress it is fine with me.” – Hunter, 48, USA
“I love a little landing strip or a little triangle with shaved lips.” – Thomas, 26, USA
“Frankly, if you ask me, fully-shaved female fun bits are, well, boring. That’s not to say that I want her vagina to look like it just stepped off the millennium falcon after a space battle with Boba Fett, but there’s really something to be said about a well-groomed vagina that makes a woman’s naughty bits much more appetizing as far as this observer is concerned.” – Jason, 33, USA
“I think it’s good that girls have something down there. A nice trim makes it more inviting. I too trim, and wouldn’t stop.” – Antony, 30, U.K
“Right off the bat, I'll say that I want her to be comfortable. If she wants to make it a jungle down there, I'll still go adventuring, but I'll be more like a humming bird sipping from a flower. Delicate and precise.” – Reddit user
“I find a woman being comfortable to be sexy. If she likes what she has ‘down-there’ and is willing to share with me, all the better. There is no color that would change that opinion.” – Reddit user
“I like it. The problem with shaving is you end up with stubble. Then my stubble hits their stubble and it's like velcro.” – Reddit user
“In my opinion, I like trimmed best. Shaved is great but not necessary as it were. Full bush, ok but bottom of the ranking. This sounds to me like the female equivalent of men worrying about their penis size. You care far more than anyone else does.” – Reddit user
“As an older man, from an era where basically nobody shaved, I find bald c*nts weirdly unpleasant. I see it and I think it looks like a child. I recognise that fashion changes, but I don't want to look at a childish vagina unless I am changing a diaper. Do what you want, but I will absolutely turn down a f*ck if she is bald.” – Reddit user
“I think I prefer a neatly trimmed and kept pubic area. Bald is fine, I guess, but it's definitely not a specific turn on. In fact, I don't actually care hardly. She could be sporting a '70's bush and I wouldn't care that much.
Edit: Particularly in a relationship, I get to hear about my girlfriend’s skin irritation, the time spent to get it ‘just right’, and I just feel bad more than anything. I care about this person and that seems like an awful lot of work and effort for something I don't care that much about.” – Reddit user
So, the men have spoken! And now that we have a bit of insight into their preferences and desires when it comes to their partner’s nether regions, what can we conclude? Well, that there are different strokes for different folks! Ladies, it’s definitely the time to live your best life and to sport whatever makes you feel most comfortable down below!
